I’m Just Sayin’…

Bittersweet

A while back I made the startling discovery that the chocolate I love so dearly was most likely being harvested by one of 12,000 trafficked children who labor on the cocoa farms of Cote D’Ivoire, Africa.  According to my research, both Nestle and Hershey have been know to turn a blind eye to the business of child labor.  I don’t think I’ll ever be able to eat another Hershey Kiss again.  But guess what, there is hope for those of us who cannot imagine a life without chocolate.  There is a free printable guide to ensure that your chocolate is is traffick free.   www.stopthetraffik.org/chocolatecampaign

If any of you are going to be sending flowers to your moms this weekend, may I suggest going through organicbouquet.com?  They offer gorgeous floral arrangements sourced from organic growers committed to the highest social and environmental standards.  Did you know that most flower companies import from fields in Central America where it is mainly mothers and children doing the harvesting in conditions where pesticides leave their mark on those families in the form of birth defects and cancer?  http://pangaea.org/street_children/latin/flower.htm  Take extra care to ensure you know where your flowers are coming from and who may be being exploited in the process.
