Testing, testing one two three…is anyone listening?
Today I decided to wash my clothes on the express cycle; I’ve yet to fold them to see if they actually got clean. I’m trying to do things each day to decrease my carbon footprint (while wearing cute shoes of course). Next on my green “to do” is to put my name on the DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT SENDING ME ANOTHER CATALOG list. I get so many Pottery Barn catalogs; I’m talking more than one a week not to mention all the other ones- probably on average 10 a week. Today as I was taking the trash out, I was so stoked to find that we only had one bag of trash for the whole week! Everything else was composted and recycled. That is bad ass. I hope my pastor doesn’t read my blog because there *will* be cussing in it.Â
I challenge you to start decreasing your garbage by changing to the smaller can, the money you save is negligible, but by having a small trash can you are making a statement that says, “Yea, this is my little trash can… jealous?” (think Amy Poehler)Â
Do you want to take your kids on an educational field trip? It is free and right here in town. That’s right ya’ll Newberg Recycling Center, whoop whoop. You would be amazed at what you can take there to get rid of for FREE while being so PC! Just go check it out. The man that works in the booth with the orange vest is super nice (don’t let the hook hand scare you). My kids really enjoy running around depositing glass, bags, and plastic containers in their respective receptacles. They love it when the bottles hit the bottom of the container and shatter- the shattering sounds so bad, but it feels so good to break it. In fact my daughter has a friend who actually requests to go there with us. Go figure. If you ask me, it is never too young to start them learning about the importance of taking care of this earth. I know my daughter already takes a lot of pride in our compost pile. So does my husband, who pours his own nitrogen concoction on it when the sun goes down and the neighbors have drawn their blinds.
Nice work. Love the Amy Poehler reference.
